Hoa Lu, Tam Coc & Ninh Binh
Visit Hoa Lu, Vietnam's first royal capital, in power from 968 to 1010 under the Dinh, Le, and Ly dynasties. Then go to Tam Coc and climb Mua Cave's tough 500 steps for a panoramic landscape of Tam Coc. After lunch, take a traditional sampan, for a river trip through the rice paddies and into the sacred caves of Tam Coc. The enormous limestone mountains rising above the rice paddies have earned it the nickname of "Terrestrial Halong Bay" for its similarity to the landscapes of Halong Bay.
